Mir Ali Akhtar is a resident of Bangladesh, who is extremely active in the welfare of traditional Bangladeshi artists.
He was born in Bangladesh in 1951. After a successful career in the Bangladeshi Air force, he turned his attention to the conditions of traditional Bangladeshi artists. He is presently engaged in the dissemination of information about the folk music and folk theatre of the Dhorla (Dharla) river basin.
His particular areas of interests are in the revival of folk theaters. These include the “Poddo Puran”, “Kushan”, and “Dotragan”.
He is also a social advocate. The communities of traditional folk arts communities have become economically and socially marginalized in Bangladeshi society; he has been very active in their social and economic upliftment.
