Comments – This is a very interesting interpretation of Ektal. There does not appear to be any Ektal theka here. This would at first appear to be very unusual, and admittedly it does open up the possibility that this could be Dadra or some other 6/12 beat tal. The overall impression given is that this piece is the ending section of a larger kathak piece, and the presumption is that the Ektal theka would have been presented in the early portion (not shown). In place of the theka there are sections which are essentially three vibhags of an ultra-fast Tintal. Since there are only three vibhags instead of Tintal’s usual four, this brings the number of matras down to 12 ultra-fast beats.

Are you interested in a secular approach to teaching Indian music.
Indian music is traditional taught in a fashion that is linked to Hindu world views. But there are situations, often in schools, where this approach may not be the best. In such situations The Music of South Asia may be the best resource for you.
