Comments – This is an interesting piece.
One of the first things to strike the listener is the use of the pungi (i.e. bin), or at least a sampled version thereof. This is very effective at conveying a rural feeling. This rural mood is replete with all of the social and class associations that go with it.
The melodic aspects are also interesting. In a classical approach to Todi, one will differentiate Mian Ki Todi from Gujari Todi by the treatment of the fifth (ie. Pancham). Gujari Todi does not use Pa, while Mian ki Todi does, but in a very weak form. The music directors of this song used a Pa, but in a very pronounced way. This heavy use of Pa gives a very interesting quality, one which is at times very different from most interpretations of Mian Ki Todi.
