Comments – This is a good example of Yaman, at the same time it shows its versatility. Kalyan is almost universally used to show moods of either of joy, romance, or devotion. Yet this song very effectively uses it to invoke a mood of despair.

Comments – An interesting treatment of Kalyan. At times is shows a very clear Kalyan structure, but at times it just totally breaks the structure. For instance, at about a third of the way through the song, it descends chromatically from Pa through both Ma’s (i.e. Pa Má Ma). Not only does this break the rules of Kalyan, but such chromaticisms are very rare in Hindustani Sangeet and are generally considered forbidden for any classical treatment of the rags.
