tasha, an Indian drum

The tasha is a popular folk instrument of the kettle drum variety.  It is characterised by a very shallow metal shell.  The lacing is sometimes of rawhide, but in the urban areas, turnbuckle (screw system) tuning is common.  It is played with drumsticks.  The tasha is very popular in marriage procession bands.

The tasha may be considered to be not one, but a class of drums. Other instruments of the tasha class include the diggi and timki.
