Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a rising young star of the Indian sitar.  She is a student, and daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar.

She was born in London in 1982, and spent her early years shuttling back and forth between London and New Delhi.  She gave her debut performance in New Delhi at the tender age of 13.  Later, she moved to Encinitas, CA, where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999.

Although she is still very young, Anouskha has an impressive performing and recording career.  She regularly accompanies her father in performances; this she has been doing for quite a few years.  In 1998, she released her first solo album, "Anourag".  Two years later, she released the Grammy nominated "Live at Carnegie Hall".  Her stage career is very extensive, for she has performed in most of the world's major venues.

Anoushka Shankar's career is not limited to music.  In 2002 she published a book entitled "Bapi, The Love of My Live"; this is a pictorial biography which pays special tribute to her father, Ravi Shankar.  She has also acted in films; in 2003 she acted in the film "Dance Like a Man", where she plays a young Bharat Natyam dancer.

Anoushka Shankar's career continues to unfold, and we can expect to see many things from her in years to come.
