In Dhaka, East Pakistan police open fire on a procession of students, killing four people and starting a country-wide protest which leads to the recognition of Bengali as one of the national languages of Pakistan.
22 year old Indrani Rahman creates controversy as the Indian representative in the "Miss Universe" contest. She is married and the mother of a five year old daughter. Furthermore, the fact that she is a Muslim and that racially she is only half Indian is seen by many as an issue.

Jagdish Raj first puts on a police uniform for the film C.I.D. He later goes on to play policemen for a total 144 films. He holds the world record for number of times a person played a policeman in a films.
