Are there no sitar players in the Charleston, Huntington, Beckley area of WV or ashland - Ironton area of KY or ohio - I would be very interested in finding someone - professional or not who would be willing to take in a novice for a few afternoons of instruction
A little of topic but to comment Jeff.
I am searching for a teacher in Norway, and i have found someone but he is about 500 km away and i am afraid my budget cant justify me traveling to Oslo once a week.
But some days ago i got an answer to a e-mail i sent to a Sitar player in Sweden. He told me he was the only sitar player in Scandinavia and that he would be happy to give room for me to study under him. The only drawback is that it is almost 1500 km to go there. So to make things simple we could meet in Denmark less then 1000 km by plain. And i could come down there every 6 week or so. Anyways, good luck with finding a teacher.
You guys (that is boys and girls) that have a teacher, what do you pay pr. hour.
Or does anyone have a Guru that wants to lay down all the knowledge on you being the chosen one.
My teacher charges me $20 for about 90 minutes. He has a professional job as a neurologist so it's more of a formality than anything else. I have offered to pay more but he won't hear it.
I took a few lessons off of a very good sitarist in Philadelphia, he charged $40 a lesson but the lesson would go on for 2-1/2 to 3 hours in length. Plus he played alot so it was like a mini concert up really close.

Hi RG,
His name is James Pokorny. Give me an e-mail and I'll give you his E-mail. I dont know if its cool to give you his phone # so I wont, but you could e-mail him though. He's on the outskirts of Philly, a few miles over the Palmyra bridge,. I think he lives in Elkins Park but not sure.
