The other week i had the privilige of seeing Kumar bose play. In the performance he mentioned about playing Nikaas, what does this mean?

From what I understand is the act of playing (bols) or a composition the way it is meant to be played. For example, one of the compositions Kumar Bose played (the one about Krishna ) was created as a dialog Between Krishna and Rada. There was a certain mood to it(Angry and apologetic). The person who created the composition(Kanthe Maharaj I believe) was the only person who knew exactly what the mood was. If he gave you that composition ( written down ) just after he had created it then I don't believe you would be able to express the same feeling(mood) as he wanted it to be.
Pandit Shanta Prasad was a master in it. As is said that didn't know many compositions. Still he could make the same composition sound different everytime he played it.
I may be wrong on the meaning of it. If so then somene please help.
