Indian music has the same number of notes in the chromatic octave as western music - i.e., 12 including the octave note. But in any given scale (thaat) in Indian music you won't use close to all the notes of the octave.
The western notes and their indian equivalents (in the key of C) are C (Sa), Db (kommal Re), D (Re), Eb (kommal Ga), E (Ga), F (Ma), F# (Tivra Ma), G (Pa), G# (kommal Dha), A (Dha), Bb (kommal Ni), B (Ni), C (Sa).
