Does anyone know the asc and desc scale of Misra Bhairavi?

There is a nice 4 min video clip of an Alap on Patrick Moutals website that I want to replicate/ practice. (Nicolas Delaigue is the student)

Standard Bhairavi = S r g M P d n 'S, same back. Mis(h)ra =
mixed, usually two rags. Bhairavi is a special one, as all 12 swars can be used, giving flavours of different modes.
Hear and play, Bhairavi/ Hanumantori is anyway nice.

You lost me. Are you saying that the asc and desc scale I am looking for depends upon what rag is mixed with Bhairavi? How would I find that out?

Yes. For Bhairavis the normal rules are a little bit more relaxed. Sometimes you can hear Bhairavis that use all 12; not Schnberg style, but always sort of anchored in the normal Bhairavi scale. Tehroy is gray. Best if you tune to and try to extract it form the video by playing along.

Sorry, here it is. . (It's a QuickTime file)

Jay, Is this the style of playing you are interested in? This is the way I would like to play, alap at least. .Neal

Neal-that was a nice little clip. This is definitely an Alap in Imdadkhani Gharana. This is the school that I want to learn in. Put on any of the following and this is the style that I am completely drawn to. .

Ustad Shahid Parvez
Ustad Shuujat Khan
Ustad Vilayat Khan

How about you? Which direction are you being pulled in? Are you taking a lesson this coming Saturday?

Yes, that is the alap style I like. We'll have to get David to shift stylings a little to accomodate us. Just had a lesson last wednesday, so this Saturday is doubtful.

Now I'm lost, my old computer and modem can't swallow mov.s. So it is your fun finding the swaras. But Imdadkhani is my favourite, too. No chance to extract the audio only?

Hey Tarsi!

Can your computer play mp3 files?
I have converted the video to a mp3 file.
its a little less than 1 mb. On a modem it will take you a good 15 min.
Its possible to compress it a lot more but then it does not sound as good. But if you want i can make it smaller for you.
My e-mail is in my profile.
Send me a mail or give me your e-mail adress and i will send it to you.
