Hi,
I need to order more wire, I am unsure which is better bronze or brass. I have Phosphor Bronze Wire now, which seems a little bit prone to ring more that I would like. I wonder if the brass would be better or worse.
I think the 4th string I have now (tuned to ''Pa) is brass (it is lighter in colour).
( BTW I am ordering bulk wire from forte piano.)
thanks,
Pb
Stick with bronze for sitar, the tone is a bit of a different tone from brass, but bronze is a bit more stable as far as tension is concerned. I know that Carnatic musician favor brass and wound copper for gottuvadyam, and veena, but it is pretty much never used in the north perhaps because of the tone.

Thanks AJ and ted,
maybe I'll stick with the bronze. I don't tune to karaj pancham because of the excessive ringing of the 3rd and 4th strings. I thought maybe I could swap in a brass one and ease the twang. Maybe I'll have to add the hooks to quiet them next.
If you don't feel you're building up callus fast enough Billy, playing w/o oil is an option, as well. . . . . . .
I had a 2 week lapse here not too long ago and the outer layer peeled. . . . .so I had to "rebuild"
The good part was, it seemed that what was underneath that upper layer was still intact, and when I went back to work, I only had 2 small blisters to deal with, which the henna paste took care of quickly, within a few days I was back on track
Play every single day, that's the best way to build your callus
