Who here has the ability and know how to start up a chat room? (Billy, I'm looking at you). I think it would be neat if we could all get together and BS in real time. And could it be made webtv friendly?
Just a thought if not a dumb one.

I've run chat rooms before, not one of my favorite experiences. I have one I can run that would work on WebTV, its pretty simple.
I have a better one, I think it would work on WebTV, it has two different interfaces.
The one I've usually run won't work on WebTV, but it cost to license the software anyway.
To be honest, I'm not a fan of chatrooms. Typically, if I start one, I seldom show up except to check that its running ok. But I know a lot of people like them. Let me think about it.
Thanky there Billy, Lets see what the other members of this forum think. I dont really hang out in chat rooms either but I'd go to a sitar room of course. And no whispering guys! :-)

Sounds like a good idea if you are into chatting. Im not! isn't it time consuming? and what about the paranoia some of us would develope, is somebody online now? And what about all those well spendt chatting hours, how would my playing improve if i played my Sitar all that time?
Would it lead people away from the forum? Realtime advice is great, and that is pretty much what i get out of this forum.
But hey! who am i to care about you guys? ; )
You just chat along and ill shut up and play my Sitar. .
For some reason I think if you own a yahoo group you they have a chat room included. Maybe I will start something up, but if you dont mind it will cover the aspects of all Hindustani instruments, but mainly stringed isntruments.

There is an option in the profile for ICQ stuff, which is fine for one on one chats. I find chat rooms a bit noisy, lots of blather rolling by. I prefer the one on one stuff. Regarding IRC there are a bunch of free open source ones around
see freshmeat.net (this forum runs on redhat linux with apache, all open source). I wouldn't want to maintain one though. They seem to get hacked a lot. I would be willing to set one up, just need an available linux box, like this forum runs on :-)
Hi, I started a yahoo group called Hindustani Tantu Vadya, and it has a chat feature, and also a photo gallery, so I think it would be a good starting point. So if anyone wants to join (I am hoping you will. . . : ) then here is the link. .
