I was asked how to post a photo within a message on this forum. The instruction are to the right of the message entry box, just click on "UltraBoard Codes". However, these may not be that easy to usnderstand.

To post a pic, first you have to have it on the Internet, either on your own server, or one of the many servers out there that allow you to upload a photo.

All the special things you can do on this forum are commands that use the open and close brackets, as in [ and ], however, in my examples, I'll use { and }, since if I showed an example using the actual brackets, you wouldn't see the code for the example, you would see the results of an example. So to make a word or phrase look bold, you would want to put a {b} before the word, and a {/b} after the word, to tell it to stop making bold. So for example, if I type {b}this is bold{/b}, you would see this is bold in this sentence. Don't forget to use the brackets [ and ], instead of { and }.

OK, for posting a photo, you need the full address of the photo. Then you will use the {img= command to post it. The full format for a picture at http://myserver/myphoto.jpg would be {img="http://myserver/myphoto.jpg"}

It only looks more difficult than it really is. So here's a photo of myself in at Yambu Lakhang in Southeastern Tibet:

Remember, I used the actual brackets instead of the curly braces.

I realize this might sound complicated, and its hard to explain, especially because you can't always show the actual mojo used. I'd advise you to just play around with it, use "Preview your post. . ." so you can go back and forth until you get it right.

I don't want to sound critical of Chandra and David for putting up this great forum, but perhaps they may eventually upgrade to much more functional software now available that will make doing such things much easier. I've even considered opening my own sitar forum just for the purpose of using better software, but I don't think I need to go that far. Just learn to use what we have, and you'll be ok.

Cool, thanks Billy. Not clear on the bold thing though. You gave us two examples. Let's see which one works.
bold text and [b]bold text[/].

See, its hard to show examples! So here they are in a form that might work better. I made all of them into a picture which I uploaded and posted here. You'll see the actual command, and the results of that command. Note that most can be combined, as in the one example below, but you have to close the inner command before closing the outer command as in the example:

That's me walking on fire!

I just noticed in the command example for loading the photo above, I left off the final quote. The last few characters should have been .jpg"] with the quote right before the closing bracket.

This might be common knowledge to most, but just in case, try to keep your pictures small enough that they don't take forever to load nor will overload the system.

I would suggest starting a seperate topic for posting pics, so that everyone will know that reading that topic is going to take a little longer.
