Hey, does anyone know anything about the Kala Kendar company? their ad is below near Sitarsetc. and Buckingham's.
Anyone ever have any dealings with them? How are their sitars?
Their prices seem pretty good but who makes their sitars? RKS?
Hi,
they sell clothing. . need I say more? I bought my first sitar there, it was an awful piece of junk.
In KK's favour it was the student model, so it wasn't that expensive, so what the heck. You get what you pay for. They have much better prices if you go to their show room, in CAN$ too. I wouldn't touch them for sitars; tabla and harmonium seem better since that is what one of the guys there plays. Their lower end stuff is bina and the high end is Rikhi Ram, but they don't stock RR.
Hi Pb.
That figures, I e-mailed them some tech questions about their sitars and they never got back to me about it, but it has only been a few days.
You mentioned KK, did he get a nice sitar from them?
Hey Jeff,
actually, when I said "KK" I meant "kala kendar". I spoke with another dealer about kala kendar, who said about them : "you can't go to canadian tire to get a concert quality instrument". (Ouch!). I spent a lot of time researching mine and in the end I bought the one that I played for an hour and my instructor played it too. It is just a RKS (top one), but I think it sounds pretty good. In another year or two I will look for a fancier one, probably from Lars. (I couldn't afford it this round).
