Lehara CD Aug 11, 2003 11:03 a.m.

Hi,

I have found this site with a lehara cd for sale.

http://www.bangadrum.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=bad&Product_Code=CD-2027&Category_Code=

Does anyone have or heard this cd? I think the most important reason one would like to have a cd/tape with a lehara on it(apart from the quality of the sound of course) would be to get that improvised introduction we all love just before the tabla comes in. If you have heard this cd, does it have that intro?
Also, for those sound engineers out there, isn't it possible to separate a lehara from tabla(on a cd) using a mixer or something similar?

Hi Rod,

I haven't heard this CD, but I can see that it's one of the CDs made by Ashwin Batish. You can probably contact him directly and ask about the intro before the lehera. Here's his URL: http://www.batish.com/

As for copying a lehara off a CD, you need to be able to have a full cycle without tabla, and then loop it. But often, the tabla starts pretty much right away. .

You might be able to copy a melodic gat off an old recording. Some of the old recordings I have have the soloist (sitar, voice, etc. .) panned on one side, and the tabla on the other side.

Take care,

Shawn
