Can anyone tell who has played tabla in the film Umraoo Jaan.
Also can you recommend other indian films with good tabla / Indian Classical or light classical?
Pandit Ramakant Mhapsekar was favourite tabla player of the Mangeshkar family (classical vocalists). The Mangeshkar daughters (Lataji and Ahsaji) became popular in the film industry, as did Pandit Mhapsekarji. He played in 90% of their songs from 1950's to 1990's. He played in Umrao Jaan, Lekin etc.
Im not sure if he played in Pazeeka. I heard that Chacha Kalan Khan played in a few tracks or all.
Also a film called "Guide" and "Sargam" (new) have good classical music in it.

For pakeezah i think ghulam mohammed played it, because i heard somewhere that he was the main tabla player for Naushad-sahib and actually i know he directed the music for pakeezah. .i'm not sure but i got a feeling he played tabla there. And another movie with nice tabla and overall nice music is 'Baiju Bawra' its a classic movie that came out in the 1950's, i think.
