Hello, I am learning the sitar and would like to find a tabla player in south Jersey. Being the only person interested in indian music within ten billion square miles of my home, I know this is a longshot. But any leads in this would help, Thanx

Hey man there should be indian musicians all over the place , check Samir Chatterjees Chandayan school, you should find lots of players. If not here is my standard answer.
You would be amazed to find out there are teachers in your area that can at least start you on your way . Put up an ad in the Indian food grocery stores and restaurants. And try to find someone that plays in the community

Thanks for the advice Warren, I'll find some Indian stores, resturants etc,, and ask around. But I do assume my area here is a cultural dead zone, we do have musicians if you like bands playing current pop hits, and the ancient musical heritage here goes as far back as Mustang Sally. I have to travel somewhat of a distance to find anything of interest to me. Even though I am smack dab in the middle of Phiadelphia, Atlantic city, NYC and DC there is nothing here at all but pine forest and streams so I guess I am lucky in that way. See-ya
