The best tabla player Ive known to play with a techno group is Zakir Hussain, he and other people created a CD called "tabla beat science" very nice tabla sounds on it.
Tabla beat science is a good album.
I recommend to you also:
- Talvin Singh / Anokha
- Asian Dub Foundation
- Fun Da Mental
- Dhol Foundation
- Spaceport Orchestra of Benares ( music freely available on Besonic.com)
- Secret Archive of the Vatican (Also avalaible on besonic)
- Archaic pop stuff ( i don't if it's available, but interesting it is)
All these bands offer "techno" music with indian samples and atmosphere. Enjoy
You like good Indian-Western music fusion?Listen to the German multi-instrumentalist Prem Joshua.
His albums "Dance of Shakti" and "Mudra" includes trancey rhythms, drum'n'bass and other modern grooves. This all interwoven with Manish Vyas on tabla.Very recommended. On this very moment he his making an US tour. More about him and his music: http://www.premjoshua.com/
Krasp mentioned everyone i know (and laswell was mentioned too) but karsh kale was left off.
id also recommend muslimgauze, soma, third eye foundation, natacha atlas, and bally sagoo, not always specifically tabla, but a lot of middle eastern percussion mixed with electronics.
and eventually ill have a page up on mp3.com under the name "duman" for my electronic music that uses a lot of dumbek and tabla . . in fact ill go set it up now. there should be at least one song up by the weekend.
