One teacher I had had a very smooth rock for smoothing out the syahi that he got in India. I think it is the same one the tabla makers use when making tablas. It's supposed to help a little with the buzz in the tabla. It is a special kind of rock-does anyone know what this stone is called? I think in India they are actually fairly pricey (yes-for Indians as well as non-bargaining foreigners )
