Arati Misra

Arati Misra is one of the most renowned singers and composers in Orissa today, and is widely acclaimed for her proficiency in both classical and contemporary forms of music. Born in Cuttack, Orissa, in 1938, she was initiated into the world of classical music at a tender age. Her formal training, which began in the early forties, culminated in the Sangeet Alankar (Master in Music) degree in Hindustani Classical Music from the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in 1965. During this period, she also trained in Odissi and light classical music under two of Orissa's most famous artists, Balakrushna Das and Bhubaneswar Mishra.

Arati Misra began her distinguished career broadcasting for All India Radio in 1949. She currently enjoys the status of "Special Class Artist", a distinction shared only by Raghunath Panigrahi. She has also performed for Doordarshan since 1965. She composes her own music, and also provides musical direction for other radio and television programs. Many of Arati Misra's songs have been recorded under HMV, EMI and Ganthani labels. She is highly acclaimed as an artist with several performances in India, U.S.A., Europe and Africa.
