The mizhavu (miravu) is a pot drum from Kerala. It is made from a very large pot, usually made of copper or brass, that is covered with a skin. There is a small sound hole in the side. It is associated with the traditional Sanskrit theatre of Kerala known as Kutiyattam. It is also associated with the traditional theatre of Koothu. Traditionally the mizhavu was played by members of the Nambiar Community, but today it beginning to find a broader usage.
