I study Bharat Natyam in Switzerland and would like to know about dance communities in other countries.
Around here we have kind of two seperate scenes:
First there are the schools led by the Tamil community - mostly refugees from Sri Lanka. They are very well organised and linked and hold a yearly dance competition.
Then there are schools lead by Indian or Swiss teachers, aimed at Swiss students. Those schools only have very limited contact. It's like dance islands. I find this a real pity because I also study Middle Eastern Dance, where there is a lot of collaboration.
My name is Sita, myself am a Bharata Natyam student, and live in Budapest, Hungary. As far as I know, here in the country there is only one girl to teach Indian classical dance, who is my teacher. She got her diploma at Kalakshetra Academy in Madras, and she is an acknowledged representative of Bharata Natyam in all Europe. She has a dance theatre, and they perform every 2-3 month. If there existed some other Indian dance teacher, by this time I would surely know.
There is another Bharata Natyam school in Austria, Vienna, named Natya Mandir, and led by Radha Anjali. I saw Radha Anjali dancing last year, it was breath-taking. She is great! You can learn more about her at their homepage.
It seems that you are a professional dancer, which sounds very interesting. Maybe you could reveal more about your activity and yourself either on this forum or on the community board. It is always nice to get acquainted with persons who has the same love and same interest of ours.
Well, I'm not a professional dancer in the sense that I earn my living with dancing. But I dance and perform a lot and would call myself "dancer with professional attitude".

Thank you a lot for offering your valuable help and giving us your personal e-mail address. I will surely have sometimes questions, however, what I discovered about Indian Classical dance that all you need to do is to practice and not talk too much. Same as in yoga. Thank you again
