I'm looking for interested tabla, sitar, Israj/ Dilruba/ Sarangi, etc. players in the Philadelphia area for a fun, unique fusion project. I am not an Indian musician, and am only just beginning to listen to, play, and understand it. But what I do know of the music -- both the traditional ragas as well as some of the really good Indian pop music -- I absolutely love. I'm hoping to do a couple of performances at venues (one tentataively scheduled for May 29th) with a few players of Indian instruments.
Some of my songs do have certain very basic ideas of Middle Eastern and Indian music, and often employ compounded time signatures not dissimilar from tals.
This is really just a fun, interesting fusion project I'm looking to do. Even if you're an intermediate player, I'd like to hear from you. As long as you're comfortable playing on stage and with other musicians, I think we could work something out. If you'd be interested, feel free to e-mail me at mnace@minorityrecords.com. Thanks!
P.S. -- Check out my website at www.michaelnace.com. There are mp3s of my music in the "Discography" section.
