Any Interest in New Forum? Jun 07, 2002 10:05 a.m.

I've asked David Courtney to look into
starting a new forum called "Indian Strings Forum". Its great to have an open forum for sitarjis exchanging info and so forth. But how 'bout those sarangi, sarod, tanpura, dilruba, veena, surbahar and so-forth players? I've heard people say there is a ton of information on the net for sitar and tabla, but hardly nothing for anything else. So, my thought here was to ensure that players of other stringed instruments wouldn't feel left out. In that same line, you could also combine all the percussion like tabla, pakawaj, kanjiri, gatham, etc into a "Percussion Forum" so as to include fans of those instruments as well. Anyway, what do you all think? Any interest in modifying this board a bit to include other folks? David said he would consider it if there is sufficient interest.

Yes, great idea Russ and David Courtney ! . . . Widen the existing categories to provide more variety and interest, while maintaining the support of the tabla/ Sitar enthusiasts . . . All the best with the development of this idea, and the future of this excellent board . . . Namaskaraams, Blessings, and Assalamu Alaikam.

Hello,

I am just lurking here from time to time
and I also miss forums on general strings
and percussion.
Good idea!

Greetings,
Stefan

Thanks folks. A little disappointed with only 3 responses. No response at all on the sitar forum. Stefan, your sarod and sitar questions would be perfect for strings forum. Oh well, I'll wait a little longer to see if anyone else has an opinion. Otherwise I guess this idea didn't fly. . . . . . . . . .
