Sitarist David Pontbriand, of Portland Maine, is a rare exception to the rule. Learning to play the sitar without a teacher is indeed a formidable task, and not highly recommended. With a singular determination, Pontbriand set out in 1973, to do just that. Inspired by the great sitar masters Ravi Shankar, Nikhil Banerjee, and Vilayat Khan, he has developed a style that is both deeply personal, and strictly classical, steeped in the traditional ragas of North Indian music. In addition to public and private recitals, Pontbriand teaches private students and presents lecture-demonstrations.

Gabe Halberg has studied with two of India's finest tabla masters. He began his studies with Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California. His musical training has continued under the guidance of Pandit Samir Chatterjee in Queens, New York. Gabe lives in North Central Vermont, where he teaches and performs regularly.
