I am trying to emerce myself in indian music but have a limited number of recordings. I really don't have the money to buy them and have already explored my area's libraries looking for more music. I would like to trade with anyone interested. We can send files to each other in MP3 form. Although I have a limited number of Indian CD's, I have some western classical music and a very extensive collection of Jazz recordings. Anyone interested please email me at bluestink@aol.com and I'll tell you more specifically what I have.

Thanks!

Have you tried listening music online such as at musicindiaonline.com etc? Although, most of things up on this site are film songs and stuff but there is also some classical music.

There is actually plenty of Indian music online, try musicindiaonline.com, and dovesong.com, and also Patrick Moutal's site (just google him). also search on ebay for various CDs, I have found some very rare recordings and LPs for only a couple bucks. .

As for mp3's I would discourage this because this art form really needs financial support and it would be much more difficult if not impossible for many Indian artists to survive without CD sales. I fully support the potential for exposure of the music but its critical to invest in the music to keep it available. Check out the stuff online now (which consists of a lot of older material no longer in print), and then you might choose to further explore particular performers to get the most for your money. where are you from may I ask?

And ehhhh. . . you could also use Kazaa-type programs. I know it's debatable. . .With Soulseek I've downloaded lots (LOTS) of Indian Classical Music, including some gems by Z.M. Dagar and Asad Ali Khan. Also some MP3's from vinyl's from the 60's. .long out of print and crackling like crazy. . . Since these recordings are long out of print I don't make such a point of it.

Peace,
