Hi all���
i'm learning and reading abou sitar tecniques to play.
Anyone knows the differents forms to play the sitar. .
I've read about the 'Da' touch, 'Ra' touch and 'Na' touch. I would like to know the difference. .
There's another touch play form called 'Diri'.
and finnaly i've notes about a 'hammer strike' and 'cut touch'.

Hi & good year & Namaste to Alicante.
Da = main stroke, upward finger movement, all stroke patterns begin with Da
Ra = downward stroke, allways follows Da
Diri = Da Ra strokes in double time.
Patterns are made up from these according to the beat/talam. Ex: Da Ra Da Ra or Da Diri Da Ra or Diri Diri Da Ra (four beats). Endless variations possible.
Na = I only know this as a Tabla bol. Different Gharana?

Na-update: it is not used in Sitar, but in Been, where there are Gha, Na and Ra strokes, derived from Pakhawaj.
