what cable type does the riyaz tabla machine and raagini take? Oct 29, 2003 09:54 a.m.

Hi,
my friend who picked up a riyaz tabla machine and raagini tanpura for me is coming over and he wants to hear the machines he bought for me. So, I want to try to pick up the cables for them beforehand. We have the same power requirements as the US.

Does anyone know the name of the cable or have a pic of it they can point me to?

thanks,
Pb

Jeff

The only idendification my cable has on it is the name *ORIGINAL*. printed on the cord part. You will need an adapter because the prongs are tube or rod like, not flat.

Thanks jeff. I guess it is not a trivial thing. I'll bring it in to the electronics shop for a plug.

Hi PB,
The cord that plugs into the Riaaz or Raagini is "proprietary." It is made by the manufacturer, so the likelihood of finding another compatible cord at your local electronics store - is small.

So maybe it is the plug adapter as opposed to the cord that I need?

Yup. They're little gray units, available at any Radio Shack for about a buck and a half.

To make it easier and less expensive just pic up to cords. You probably have a few you can use in your house. They are the black kind with a two-prong(US kind) plug and one end, and then the other end has two inward holes so that is plugs into things. I am sure a stereo, or some kind of thing you have would have and adapter like that, they are extremely common.

Hey guys,
I think for now I'll grab a few cheap adapters so that my friend can hear the thing. Later I make or buy a proper cord. I hate adapters.

Now that I have the machines in hand, I actually had 2 cords that fit perfectly in my cable box. That saves a few bucks. They are not proprietary at all. Most boom boxes use them and a bunch of dsl modem power supplies (which is where I got mine).

thanks,

That's great to know. BTW - by proprietary - I meant that they were not a generic item that I'd been able to purchase in an electronics or hardware store.

I'll see if I can find a name for the cable somewhere. Maybe they are hard to find, but I'm sure they can be ordered from places like digikey.com or mouser.com.

I have bought several of these cables from Radio Shack (at least in SEVERAL Texas citities). However, please note that theere are different types of connectors (the female side of the power cable). It is best you take the unit to Radio Shack and determine which one fits best.
