Here's a topic I could use some help with. What are some essential Sitar recordings that one should have in their library, let's say the Top 12. Thanks!
This has been up before, if you search a little in the archives you will be able to find it, i cant remember the name of the topic. But someone else will, hang in there and the answer will be served to you on a silverplate by some of us. .
im in dysplwextics mode now so never mind the spelling
Go on amazon.com, listen to some samples, follow the artist links and you should be on your way. Also check out dovesong.com, and musicindiaonline.com, that should keep you busy for a while.
Here's a couple favorites off the top of my head.
Shujaat Khan and Tejendra Marumdar jugalbandi (duet), Rag Jog or Rag Lalit.
These guys are excpetional while performing together, and separately as well.
Nikhil Banerjee afternoon rags, Bhimpalasi and Multani
anything by Ustad Vilayat Khan
Also to be noted, on HamaraCD.com they allow you to customize your own discs (under 60min), though for some reason they neglect to mention the cost and shipping/taxes, etc., so this may only be for die-hard fans. good luck
