From what I have read, Hemen sitars tend to have a slightly thicker main gourd and neck compared to Hiren Roy sitars. Regarding sound quality, I'm not sure about the differences. I hear that Hiren Roy is the #1 maker in India. It sounds like both of these instrument makers are a couple of the top makers, along with Rikhi Ram.
