SAWF Interview - A conversation with Dr. Stephen Slawek, and his music online Mar 22, 2003 08:53 p.m.

Dr Stephen Slawek initiated a program, in North Indian Classical music, upon joining the faculty at the University of Texas(Austin) in 1983. Since then instruction on the sitar, tabla, and voice has remained a part of the curriculum at the University. Listen to his journey with North Indian Classical, including Pandit Ravi Shankar, and a performance of Shuddha Basant at http://www.sawf.org/music/interviews/slawek/slawek.asp?pn=Music. Complementing the conversation are some photos.

Visit the page for photos of his concert on April 5th, 2003 in Austin with Anindo Chatterjee, after the event.

The article on the Saraswati vina remains active at until mid April, at http://www.sawf.org/music/Artists.asp?pn=Music. Vinayak Torvi's interview is coming up in April/May.

Enjoy

Dear Amitava,
Is it possible to send me the email adress from Dr. Slawek? I really enjoy listening to Raag Shudda Basant, there is no way to download the file, so I would like to get into contact with Dr. Slawek to see if it's possible to obtain an MP3 of the recording. I really like the it (but even with DSL it still stops a lot to buffer the file: bummer!)

Peace,

Remco

Dear Remco,

The recording is at a rate on 1 meg/min (due to the high sample rate) and I think it is a long 30-45 min performance. I do not think that Dr. Slawek will mind you having the mp3 version, since anyone can record off the net in any case. The issue is storage space/delivery. Write to me at amitava.sarkar@paiindia.org and let me know the options.
