Hi,
Anyone who has seen the Vilayat DVD of Rag Hameer from Khazana.com--- can you tell me if it is in relatively clear "cinematic" footage like the new Ravi DVD - or is it older B/W archive footage from the 50's , 60's?

Hi,
The footage is relatively recent, recorded live in concert at the Royal Festival Hall, London, November 1993. It's pretty clear, and nicely done. However, I think that it has been through some sort of video conversion process because the tabla player's fingers are literally a blur when he plays fast.
I second that it is good quality although not quite as crisp as the Shankar DVD. I was intrigued by the previews of upcoming selections too. Aside from the Shankar/Khan DVDs, does anyone know of any other DVDs of ICM that are available?
L,
The Pandit Shankar DVD is very nice. The film quality is high. The documentary is nicely done and the concert film is top notch. A lot of what is seen in "Raga" is reintroduced in the new DVD.
I just noticed the other day that Pandit Bannerjee is playing tanpura for Ravi in one of the older film clips.
You will find that it is money well spent.
I haven't seen the Vilayat DVD, But found a copy of the Ravi DVD, And really thunk it was well done. For as old as he is Ravi can Play very well. And his daughter, who ever marries her will be a lucky man. . . . . .Peace

Ustad Vilayat khan for the most part plays sitar. In the madhya lay teental when he starts playing a composition, he sings the sthayi, antara and alap ( 5 mins. max). The DVD is very nice, esp. if you like vilayat khan's sitar style.
