Howdy,
If you don't want to pay for a new copy on VHS, dream up some kind of barter that we can pull off. I have a copy that I feel is going to never be played again after the arrival of the DVD player. Would love to trade it for something more useful. If you have a DVD player, you should just get the "In Portrait" disc as it is everything that "Raga" is, and more. Plus the concert disc (and much of the documentary) is filmed in digital, so picture quality is superb and sound quality is very good. Normally, I don't suggest Ravi Shankar's stuff to people (not that I don't like his body or work), but in this case, to sitarjis worldwide, I say it is a must have. If you don't have it, get it. If your excuse is that you don't have a DVD player, that excuse is lame as now you have a reason to get one (and can probably find one for about the same price as "In Portrait"). There are other reasons to have a DVD player as well. Vilayat Khan has a DVD out from what I understand (anyone know where to get it?) and outside of ICM, there are lots of things of note. I watched a good King Crimson disc the other night along with Zappa's old obscurity "200 Motels".
I very much prefer Ravi's work to his body. But I prefer Anoushka's body to her work. Is it alright to have fun here?

Neil;
I guess you're just going to have to give her a call sometime. I hear she's quite friendly and easy to talk to.
Stephen;
Go to neelam.com. That's the only place I know of to get the Vilayat DVD. I have it on backorder myself. Agreed about the Ravi DVD. I play it on my folk's player (don't have one yet)hooked to their stereo TV. Very good quality. But I keep the Raga VHS anyway since it has nostalgia value to me. 200 Motels? Now that brings back some strange memories. .
You know Russ, in a heartbeat, a heartbeat, I would do just that. But my wife, mistress, girlfriend, secretary, sitar and goomah(for you sopranos fans) would be adverse to that.
Oh well. I'll just have to stick with what I got.
