Hello, I have been getting into Manilal Nag lately . His available recordings seem to be quite limited, so I was ecstatic when I came across 2 CD's that I had not seen until recently. So for those Manilal fans. .Raga Nat Bhairav, Raga Dabari, Raga Mishra Kafi
I saw Sharmistha Sen 3 months ago: didn't like it at all!! She was very grumpy towards her felow musicians and the music didn't come alive at all. A friend of mine went to the concert the next day in Amsterdam and had the same experience. . . hmmmmm. . . . .
In the same concertseries though I saw sarodplayer Tenjendra Majumdar: stunning, totally captivating. . . .Probably the best Indian concert I've ever witnessed: the interplay between him and his tablaplayer bordered on telepathy!!!
Peace,
Remco
Hi Neal,
Yea, Manilal is great. . .his daughter is supposed to release a CD soon through Raga Records but no sign of it yet, really looking forward to that! I have not heard Sharmistha Sen yet. . . . . .
There are a few more CDs available of Pt. Nag on the Biswas (www.biswas.com I think), Raga Records, and JVC. I just purchased his Nat Bhairav (IMA) and am waiting to hear it. I think he plays the surbahar on the album also. Hopefully Mita's Ahir Bhairav from Raga Records should be out this year. She recorded it around 2 Springs ago (2001).
Just purchased Sen's IAM CD in CA and am waiting for it to arrive.
