I was surfing through channels on the satellite dish tonight and caught the last twenty minutes or so of this documentary, with some great playing from Ravi and Anoushka. I noticed a post from May '02 referencing this on the BBC, so now you can catch it in the U.S. If you've got DirecTV, keep an eye on the WorldLink TV channel - they repeat stuff quite a bit so my guess is that it will show up again.
Well. . .lets see, callouses peel occasionally but usually you still have tough skin underneath unless it really went deep. The only thing you can do is to use good oil and things like wait after you get out of the bath until you play or use a hair dryer, etc. If you cut the callous too deep then you'll get a split like you have. . . .I have good callouses but not too thick as I don't practice as much as I should so they always seem to stay the same. . . . .
