Well . . . . . if I remember right about half of it is a bunch of shots of all the strange people that were there . . . (most of them probably don't remember the concert!). Not my favorite video but Ravi's performance and recording from that concert were pretty good . . .
That concert footage of Ravi is worth owning it, seeing all the other crazy stuff,? well there is a very nice trade off between Ravi & Alla Rakha
you know trade Sitar lick for Tabla lick( I'm not sure what else to call it) But it is very good, I have spent many hours by the T.V fastforewarding & rewinding Trying to learn those fast finger secerets . . . . . Peace
I'll be glad when it is released on DVD so that all of the fast forwarding and rewinding will be a thing of the past. I have seen someplace that is offering a Vilayat Khan performance on DVD, hoping that many more performances will make their way onto this format.
Ravi Shankar and Alla Rakha's performance is about 15-20 minutes long. And some of those "weird looking" folks in the shots of the audience were some of the most influential performers of the time. Kind of fun to see how many you can pick out. Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Micky Dolenze, Mama Cass to name a few. I don't know what it is about having visual cues as to what is going on, but it almost makes the sound quality seem better than that of the CD of the Monterey festival. Buy the tape!!!
I think I saw it on www. dvdplanet.com. .But it was a 3 DVD set for several years. . http://www.dvdplanet.com/search_quick.asp?keywords=monterey&x=10&y=12 . . .
