Anindo Visits Austin and New TablaOnline Website!!!

Well I just spent the weekend with Anindo-da, he is doing very well. We had a workshop on Saturday , truly amazing. Info is on the austin tabla website.
Congrats to David, I heard his concert with Amie (sitarist) in Huntsville was very successful.
Folks there is a new tabla website http://www.tablaonline.com Anindo-da just did an interview for. Friends it is a bit bizarre, this tabla website is a full fledged professional on line magazine. It is so polished it is a little strange .
I think it is cool and maybe time but on the other hand tabla is a very down to earth training for us, more like our religion . Check it out , do you think it is cool or maybe to cool.
Regards,
Warren

Yes folks there is a new Tabla website, and yes it is polished and yes it is professional - exactly the respect that Tabla and Indian Classical Music (ICM) deserves.
For centuries this artform has developed and had done very well to ethuse and enliven those who listen and admire the beautiful sounds that are played. But this is the 21st Century and we need to bring ICM forward and educate those who are less fortunate to come accross, the likes of these great maestros.
Tablaonline is very unique in its approach, and I realise it is almost shocking to see the form it has taken but we believe this has an appeal. Just because ICM is traditional doesn't mean we should keep it below that line and have web sites that only reflect the 'History' and 'Past' but we should strive to create a space where information is current and up-to date just as ICM has become especially in the cross-cultural east/west arena.
A religion it may be to some, I myself have played for over 15 years but I was fortunate enough to recieve the tuition, others are not so lucky. Overall this site is not only for those who play ICM instruments and feel they have an inside track/privilige but for general listeners and enthusiasts also.
I invite all organisations and individuals to contribute and share in the experience of Tablaonline and its cause.
Thank you

Nice site, I really enjoyed the interview with Swapan Chaudhuri (who is my teacher's teacher, by the way). Good use of photos, especially on the interviews page.

Terrific website! (won't replace tablaforum just yet). Hope they can keep it current - maybe with our support they can. Write to them and tell them what you think. It's also nice to see they have major record label support (Navras, Audiorec, Sense World, etc.)
Great professional quality photos, too.
My favorite is the interview with Shubhankar Banerjee. I just spoke with him yesterday at the all-nite concert with Barun Pal on hamsa veena. Shubhankar was HOT - he's definitely an artist to watch and to learn from. You can tell he does serious riyaaz. No gimmicks, amazing vocabulary, clean, clear bols, amazing speed, and on-the-money accompaniment. He reminds me a lot of Anindoda - similiar stage presence, sincere humility, and the sense that he has more than he'll ever show in one or even a dozen performances. He has a solo scheduled in D.C. next month, I can't wait to be there, I'll keep you posted. He also has a solo CD out but I can't recall the label or where it's available(?) In the meantime if you get a chance see him by all means!
I also saw Pt. Suresh Talwalkar on accompaniment with Pt. Ulhas Kalshakar. Sureshji also has a new CD out to go along with his current tour. It's a blast! - more about that later.
