I posted it a while ago after seeing the film on the Dutch TV but maybe a good idea to show the link every few months again. This nice videopiece is a must to see for the new visitors of this forum.

Swara,
A million thanks for posting this originally!!
I never get tired of watching this short clip - Anyone who thinks they know Zakir Hussain or believes they've seen Ust. Zakir too many times ought to look again. .and again. The full dimension of this man's innate knowledge is rarely seen in performance or heard on CD's but I think it is witnessed briefly here. So much to see in this clip - always something I didn't see before - just watching his body language and how incredibly relaxed he is a lesson in itself - and not just for newbies!
If anyone knows where this film is scheduled to appear PLEASE let us know! (Perhaps someone will start a new thread where showdates can be updated - at least until it's available commercially - even then, who'd not want to see this at least once on a movie-sized screen?!!)
Great clip, I hope this is released on dvd! Zakir is my hero.
If you're looking for an amazing Zakir dvd that is already in the stores, check out Tabla Beat Science "Talamanam Sound Collision". I got it a few weeks ago and have watched it many times. There's even a feature on the dvd to change camera angles, and you can focus the camera on Zakir the whole time. :-) It's a 2 DVD set for under $20 in the US.
But anyway, back to "Speaking Hand". . I'm glad that a film like that has been made to document this musical innovator and his achievements. From Shakti in the 1970's to Tabla Beat Science in this new millenium, Zakir Hussein has carried on his father's tradition of expanding the boundaries of the instrument and the music.

For the moment only available on Region 1 (US and Canada). We Europeans have region 2 and always have to wait a lot longer (or it just don't appear), you lucky guys!!
