First of all thanks for posts about high dayans I would really like to find one too! Also Anaaddha you are right - its amazing how many shops think that one tabla can be tuned to any note - and usually they let the dayan sit there totally flat. And all hand drums for that matter especially djembes, which I'm also quite interested in. I have two points for this posting one is a question. When you hear really good tabla players reciting bols vocally they can say fast combinations of notes really easily. How can they do this, for example saying rela? it sounds like they're kind of rolling their tounge. for example Dhaa TRKTTK -Naa- TRKTTK Dhaa. Ok my other thing is there is a nice audio tabla demonstration i think its Zakir Hussain. Its really cool for people like me who aren't very experianced. check it out - http://search.aol.co.uk/av?query=tabla+demonstration - this is how I found it! Jx

Cheers for the demo, I loved that. Sounds like Zakir to me too.
It is Zakir. It is taken from the Cd: 'Super Percussion of India' on World Sound Library (Japan) . Released on the occasion of the Festival of India in Japan '88.
