Ek Taal Theory????

Hello.

Is there any special reason for ek taal having 2 Khalis? does it trace back to any historical origin (ie religious or otherwise?)

2 khalis? Following my lectures, in tabla playing the middle 4 matras form one only anga which is kali. In my understanding the division is like 4, 4, 2 and 2. Have you learnt 6 times 2? All the best.

I know there is another version of ek taal as well. . . . any comments on why the two versions? why two khalis?

Read James Kippen's article of tal. Search for his name or his name+tal and I think you'll find it pretty easily. There is a lot of good information.
