Since you are in california, yo can learn tabla from zakir hussain (more info at http://www.momentrecords.com ) or you can learn from Tari Khan ( www.taritabla.com ) These two are both huge names in the tabla scene, Zakir is more classical and tari is more of a light ghazal or qawwali player, but both are great. Zakir is in San Anselmo and Tari is somewhere in southern california ( i forget the place)

I would love to learn from these legends but both of them are far from me. Tari is in Los Angeles and I am in Sacramento so that is very far. Also Zakir is far from me. Commuting would be very difficult and not wise. I don't know if any of them will them thru online or email or telephone.
