I want to learn to play the tablas, but I dont know where to start. Everything seems so complicated, and I do not have much prior knowledge about the tablas. Can someone help show me where I can start learning?
find a good guru and you are guaranteed to be set on the right track. Your best bet would be to call a guy who doen't teach tabla, but only teaches sitar or vocal or any other indian instrument and ask him who the best tabla teachers in the area are and how to contact them. That way you will find a guy who knows real tabla and won't teach you the wrong stuff.
