I recently purchased a dayan head. The reason I am replacing it is because the old head buzzed. When I attempted to attach a newly purchased head it began to make the same buzzing sound the old head made.
frustrated, it took it off and put it in cold storage. Any insights ? Peace, Love, Living in the now

Joe,
Where did you buy the head? Was the sahayi shiny or flat looking when you got it? Did you wet the inside/underside of the chat before you put it on? (After numerous mishaps of a similiar nature I only put mine on dry.) Were you careful not to damage the sahayi during reheading?
p.s. Silverbush.com is in the process of a change of ownership and may not be a source of quality drum heads for much longer. Does anyone know of any other reputable head suppliers?

Joe,
Depending on where they're obtained, sometimes the heads the heads are old or damaged before you get them. It's often hard to tell before they're stretched, but you should examine them carefully when you buy them and return them if they look suspect. Very often a dealer will refuse to exchange a head after it's been laced. This happened to me twice with so-called $80. "premium" heads I purchased domestically. There was no way of knowing if the head would 'buzz' until after it was stretched. I suspect now that the heads had been sitting in storage for longer than normal.
This is not a problem in India where the tablawala will replace the head and often manufacture a new one while you wait.
If you can get someone to bring you back some fresh heads from India that would be ideal and least expensive - get some fresh straps also if you can. I actually bought a tabla head on Ebay out of curiosity and much to my surprise it turned out to be a decent product. That may be worth trying if you can afford to take a chance on getting the right size.
