I was looking for some good recordings of the old masters such as Pandit Samta Prasad, Pandit Anokhelal Mishra, Ustad Ahmedjaan Thirkwa and Ustad Shaukat Hussain. I am most interested in the benares masters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There's some on www.dovesong.com that you can download for free. I think there was only one Benares tabla solo, but there's also some good accompaniment pieces.
I've always been looking for the same thing. Your best bet is to buy CDs. There really isn't much that you can download for free on the internet.
Thanks for your reply, actully, I have already downloaded the tabla solos from dovesong.com and am currently looking at musicindiaonline.com but after i copy the file using goldwave the quality is pretty bad. I don't think I can really get into buying cd's because i'm only 14 and ordering online is a small problem. I live in Toronto so maybe someone can suggest a store i should go to. Thanks.
In Toronto, the selection isn't incredible, but there are some stores. I don't remember the exact place, but if you go to "Little India", on Gerrard street, and just walk around, you'll see a few stores with CDs and Bollywood videos. I'm sure you can find a few decent classical CDs there.
By the way,
does anyone know a way to reduce noise on old recording put onto MP3? If you could help me with that as well as picking up old recordings on the computer, it would be a big help. .
