Dear Tablajis,

Is it true that Copper Bayans are better than Brass? I'd love to hear some people's opinions on this.

If so, what about chrome-plated copper, is it better or worse than just a copper bayan?

Then finally, where's a good place to order a high quality copper bayan, and how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks,
Chris

Dear Mr.Chris,

Copper bayans will definitely give you better sound than that of brass bayans. Secondly, chrome platted copper bayans and just copper bayans are same as if you use some coin and rub little portion of bayan bottom, you will find brown coloured copper inside. So, chrome plated bayan is nothing but a plating on the copper bayan for decent looks. These chrome plated bayans look silver and shiny. I hope you are satisfied by my answer.

For accompaniment a copper bayan will be warmer and blend easier with vocals or a particular style of instrumentation. There would be nothing distasteful about using a heavy brass bayan with a well-fitted head for tabla solo or even sarode accompaniment for example. The choice of material is subjective given two drums one or the other made with an equal degree of craftsmanship.
