What is TRTRTRTRTRRRRRTRTRT? May 23, 2003 04:10 p.m.

Hello everyone.
I have been listening some recordings of tabla players. The most virtuously can make a very very very fast sound, like "TRRRRTRTRTRRTTRRTRT" in the solos. I'm sure you know the sound I'm talking about. Someone knows how this sound is made? Is this a combination of strokes? Is a TerekitaTekeTerekitaTeke very fast? Is simply a fast movement of the fingers?
Thank you for the help and excuse my really bad English.
Best regards from Castelln, Spain.

My guess is that it is TerekitaTekeTerekitaTeke which is a culmination of years and years of hard practice and dedication to perfection.

Another one is TeTeKe TeTeKe

Actually , it is tirekite tirekite
RRLRRRLR ( R right L left )
but this technique require at least 5 years of training
good luck

Hi,

From your description, it's hard to say exactly what composition(s) you may have heard, but in general when you hear extremely fast playing, that is because the tabla player is performing a rela. There is a great composition/excersise that combines 4 relas. These 4 are the basis for quite a large amount of the rela repertoire.

The theme of the composition is:

khuli
Dha-TiRa KiTaTaKa (4 times)
TaKaTiRa KiTaTaKa (4 times)
DhiReDhiRe KiTaTaKa (4 times)
Dhin-Na- KiTaTaKa Dhin-Na- KiTaTaKa Dhin-Na- KiTaTaKa Tin-Na- KiTaTaKa

then mundi. .

The Tin is played as a Tun in actual practice.
