Hello!
Info not confirmed: they separate their thumb, index finger and the remaining 3 fingers in order to get 4 surfaces (together with the heel which plays bass notes in the old style). The fingering has some common with the southern school (mrdangam) but not with tabla. They also use general percusion techniques. The bols should normally come from southern solkattu also. Anybody else?

Yes, I guess it has more to do with South Indian solkattu.
Just yesterday I had trouble with tha-kitakitathaka (mridangam-frame drum)
Since I am used to tabla bols, I was at first confused, but it is ok now, though I don't find any good info on south indian solkattu parallel with north indian, to play south indian composition with tabla.
Actually I am into tabla, udu and frame drum, and I want to get a "common ground" for these three instruments (solkattu-bol). Makes it very easy then to play same compositions on different instruments.
