Can anyone offer advice about how to tune my left hand drum? I'm new to tabla, and of the two drums in the set, the bayan's head is loose and doesn't sound good yet. How do I go about tightening the straps around the drum? (It looks hard. .)

Thanks,

If you go to the hardware store, or a home depot, ask for wood dow(sounds like dwow)
the diameter of a pencil .cut pieces two inchs, three inchs long cut enough to be put down inside the straps like on the tabla. don't tighten too fast. you must do each side accross from the other as no to tear the head.Like I said do each slowly until pitch that your wishing is reached. . . . . . . . . . . . .Peace
