Someone told me that Abhijit Banerjee was from Dili garana but I am not sure. It was just someone in Banaras which I am not sure if he really knows. Abhijit-jee is brilliant. I have got a tape where he does a duet with a Pakawaj player, something Shankar and he plays of of the most beautiful peshkar I have ever heard.
Don't know the other one.

I was also told about Sudheer Panday of the dilli garana. I was told he is amazing but he only plays mostly as accompanist. Anyone ever heard him play?

Pandit Anokelal was considered god in Banaras. They say when he played, just dha din din dha dha. . .would make people stand up and aplause. Hard to find his music but from what I heard there are some private tapes in Banaras.

Abhijit Banerjee is a student of Jnan Prakash Ghosh. I read it from Austin tabla page, where students of Jnan Prakash are listed. I am 99,75 % sure.
I don't know about the other player.

Was it Bhavani Shankar? He's an unbelievable pakhwaj and mridangam player. In fact, the two had a jugalbandhi at the Ram Krishna Mission at Gol Park in Calcutta on Nov 14th. I unfortunately could not get a pass for it.

Shankar is great pakhawaj player. I bought Pakhawaj beat-Live cd from Khazana. I haven't yet listened it thoroughly, but it sounds very good. He has also other cds available in Khazana.

Bran,

Abhijit is from Farukhabad Gharana. He learned from the same teacher as Anindo Chatterjee . . .Padmabhusan Pt. Gyan Prakash Ghosh.

Vijay Ghate is also from Farukhabad gharana. He is a student of Pt. Suresh Talwarkar.

Hope it helps,
DN

Abhijit Bannerjee started learning under Shri Tushar Kanti Bose, and later learned from Shri Manik Pal. Only afterwords did he start training under Pt. Gynan Prakash Ghosh. He also received vocal training under Shri Ajoy Chakraborty, and violin from Smt. Annapurna Devi.

I don't know any details about Vijay Ghate, excpet that his primarny guru was Pt. Tadwalkar.
